Learning to love night time

Lizzie: Since my baby was a week old, I have bedshared with her. Our routine has evolved from the early days, but always involves a clean sleepsuit, soft and gentle voices and total darkness in our bedroom.

I breastfeed her to sleep, and, when she wakes in the night, I feed her back to sleep without really waking up myself. I don’t talk to her once we’ve laid down, but we snuggle and then she turns away when she’s ready.

She’s 19 months old now, and has never been left to cry. She loves night time and going to bed and has nothing but happy, positive associations with sleep.

I know that one day, she will be ready to sleep alone, but until then, I’ll be there for her when she needs me during the day, and at night.
