– Understand your carrier
All carriers should come with a set of manufacturers instructions, if you have bought a second-hand item you should be able to find these on-line.  Make sure you understand them fully before using the carrier with your child and check for minimum and maximum weight limits.

– Get help
Preferably from an expert, for example by going to your closest sling library or sling consultant.  They can show you how to use your carrier safely and how to get the most out of it.
If you can’t get to an expert then ask someone to help you the first few times you put on and take off your carrier, a second pair of hands may be very handy.
